Piney Point Lighthouse.... a top water explosion...
Friday November 15, 2013
Finally made it south... happy that the drive was/is very doable for
a return trip to explore.

Didn't launch until 2:30pm.. but the plan was to stay out through the top
of the tide around 4:30 pm. Mostly an exploratory trip but of course
hoping to catch fish.
Fished around and out from the gas pumping station. I was out in 60 feet of
water when I saw my first hopeful sign of a very large bait ball pass under the
kayak at about 20 feet depth... it was pretty empty until then.
Some gulls were making some noise a half mile up river so I ventured into them.
Larger flock of gulls were hitting another or so mile up river but it was too far to make
a charge at them. A boat chased after them and stayed a little while but I guess
they didn't like what the action was because they didn't stay long.

Some gulls were making a bunch of noise infront of the gas station.. so I made
my way back there. And another flock of gulls moved in.... the water was going
crazy and I'm surprised a fish didn't just jump in the boat. Sonar was all lite up.
The top of the water was like being in a pot of boiling water. I'm surprised
I didn't snag a seagull on a cast. I threw pretty much everything I had... poppers,
artificial eel on bucktail, bucktail white and chartreuse, chartreuse gulps large and small,
white gulps, top waters with chartreuse, silver rattle trap types...

Finnaly as the sun had gone down and it was getting too dark to stay out not having my lights... I brought in two 20 inchers.....

I'm super happy that there were fish in the water lighting up the sonar at the top of the tide as I had predicted.
Water was super clear.
Note to myself... buy some suspenders for my snow pants... hardest part of the trip was keeping them from falling off bringing the kayak back to the car.
